“We would have lost if Conte was manager”…Postecoglou’s transformation of Tottenham’s mentality

Tottenham Hotspur’s dramatic come-from-behind victory was met with praise.

Tottenham Hotspur pulled off a dramatic 2-1 come-from-behind victory over Sheffield United in the fifth round of the 2023/2024 English Premier League at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, England, on Saturday.

It was not an easy game. Tottenham suffered a blow in the 28th minute when they conceded a goal to Sheffield’s Gustavo Hamer. Breaking down Sheffield Wednesday, who shifted their weight to defense after the goal, was easier said than done.

There was even a time delay. Sheffield goalkeeper Wes Fordringham intentionally delayed a goal kick to stall for time. Some of Sheffield’s players went down during the scuffle, delaying play.

They also had a goal disallowed for offside. Substitute Brennan Johnson nearly found the back of the net for Sheffield in the 42nd minute, but it was ruled out for offside.

Tottenham refused to give up, pressuring Sheffield with relentless attacks. Despite the fact that time was running out, there was still hope.

Manager Enze Postecoglou’s mercenary skills shone through. Postecoglou brought on Hicharisson, Ivan Perisic, Emerson Royal, and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in a bid to turn the game around.

And it paid off. In second-half stoppage time, Hischalisson headed home from a corner. Kuluczewski added a second to complete the dramatic comeback. 스포츠토토

Tottenham’s newfound mental strength has been talked about. “Tottenham deserved to win today, but under Antonio Conte, they would never have come away with the three points,” wrote Talk Sport in the UK after the game.

“Tottenham didn’t get frustrated against Sheffield Wednesday. They stuck to Postecoglou’s philosophy and kept attacking Sheffield Wednesday. Tottenham proved that they are not a team to be reckoned with this season,” praising their tenacity.
