Benjamin Mendy wore a Manchester City shirt at the start of the 2017-2018 season. Signed from Monaco for £52 million, about $83 billion, Mendy played as a left back. It was after his arrival that City’s heyday arrived. They won the Premier League title in 2017-18, 2018-19, and 2020-21.
However, since last season, Mendy has disappeared from the field. He was jailed for sexual assault. Last year, and again this year, he was drinking in a restaurant while his City teammates lifted the Premier League trophy.
Benjamin Mendy spent Sunday afternoon at a restaurant in Cheshire with two friends as he watched Manchester City lift the Premier League trophy after beating Chelsea, the U.K. Mirror reported. Sunday, local time, was City’s championship celebration at home.
메이저놀이터 According to reports, Mendy, who has been out of the City squad for over a year due to disciplinary action taken by the club, watched the game on his phone from a restaurant instead of the Etihad Stadium. Of course, the game had nothing to do with winning. They had already clinched the title with Arsenal’s loss the day before, and they had just beaten Chelsea at home in a delightful ceremony.
Mendy wasn’t at the City celebration because he was under disciplinary action for sexual offenses. On August 27, 2021, British media reported that “Cheshire Police have charged Mendy with sexual assault.” The club immediately suspended him.
Mendy later applied for bail, which was denied, and was tried in custody. Mendy was later found not guilty of seven sex offenses in January.
However, Mendy faces a new trial this summer on two additional sex offenses. The jury unanimously acquitted him of the first seven counts, but the other two will be retried.
“He expects to be acquitted once again in relation to the other two charges so that he can get his life back,” Mendy’s lawyers said.
After the verdict in January, City also backed away, saying in a statement, “Given that there are still outstanding issues in relation to this case, the club is not in a position to comment further at this time.” As a suspended player, Mendy is not allowed to return to the field as the case has not been fully resolved.
So, while City won the title last season, 2021-22, and this season, Mendy was unable to get back on the pitch, apparently bemoaning his predicament as he drank in a restaurant while his teammates celebrated.
