Check swing to Lee Seung-yup umpire appeal, Yang Seok-hwan dune to bench clearing, hot Jamsil derby, winner LG retains top spot with fifth straight win

LG extends its winning streak to five games with a win over Doosan.

LG won 7-4 against Doosan in the 2023 KBO League at Jamsil Stadium in Seoul on Saturday. LG’s Kim Min-sung had three hits, including the game-winning hit that broke a 4-4 tie in the seventh inning. Go Woo-seok earned the save.

The ‘Jamsil Rivalry’ was heated. The game was tightly contested until the final inning, when Doosan manager Lee Seung-yeop appealed the umpire’s call of a strikeout. After Doosan’s Yang Seok-hwan was hit by a sand dune, he got into a nervous tussle with LG catcher Park Dong-won, leading to a bench-clearing incident as players from both teams rushed home plate.

LG started Hong Chang-ki (right fielder), Park Hae-min (centre fielder), Park Dong-won (catcher), Austin (designated hitter), Oh Ji-hwan (shortstop), Moon Bo-kyung (third baseman), Kim Min-sung (second baseman), Lee Jae-won (first baseman) and Moon Sung-joo (left fielder). Kim Hyun-soo, who hit a home run the day before, was excluded.

Manager Yoon Kyung-yeop said before the game, “Kim Hyun-soo is a rest. He had a bad performance against (Doosan starter) Choi Seung-yong. He will bat behind him after the starter goes down.” Kim Hyun-soo is 0-for-9 against Choi Seung-yong.

For Doosan, Jung Soo-bin (centre fielder), Park Kye-beom (third baseman), Yang Yang-ji (catcher), Kim Jae-hwan (left fielder), Yang Seok-hwan (designated hitter), Kang Seung-ho (first baseman), Hong Sung-ho (right fielder), Kim Jae-ho (shortstop) and Lee Yoo-chan (second baseman) started.

LG opened the scoring in the first inning, taking advantage of a bad pitch from Choi Seung-yong. After top hitter Hong Chang-ki led off with a single to left, the LG bench ordered a sacrifice bunt to put runners on first and second. Park Dong-won grounded out to second. Austin drew a walk, and Oh Ji-hwan followed with a single to load the bases.

Doosan starter Choi Seung-yong threw a high ball on a full count to Moon Bo-kyung, allowing the first run to score on a wild pitch. Kim Min-sung followed with an RBI single up the middle to make it 3-0.

Doosan fought back in the second inning. Yang Seok-hwan drew a walk to start the inning. Kang Seung-ho followed with back-to-back singles to put runners on first and second. Hong Seong-ho, playing in his sixth game this season, drew a two-pitch, two-strike count and hit an eight-pitch double to right-centre field to bring home both runners. It was 3-2. With two outs, Kim Jae-ho flied out to right field and Lee Yoo-chan flied out to shortstop to tie the game.

LG added another run in the fifth inning. One out later, Park Dong-won drew a walk to load the bases. Doosan removed starter Choi Seung-yong and brought in Park Chi-guk as a relief pitcher. Austin singled to right to put runners on first and second, and after Oh Ji-hwan flied out to left field, Moon Bo-kyung hit a single to right to make it 4-2.

In the sixth inning, LG pulled starter Im Chan-gyu and brought in Jung Woo-young as the second pitcher. Doosan led off the sixth inning with Yang Yang-ji reaching on an infield single to second base. Kim Jae-hwan drew a straight bunt to put runners on first and second with no outs. Yang Seok-hwan singled up the middle to score the go-ahead run.

LG changed the pitcher from Jung Woo-young to Park Myung-geun. Kang Seung-ho hit a ground ball in front of the first baseman, but the runner was safe at first as first baseman Lee Jae-won lost his grip on the ball. The runner from third scored, making it 4-3.

Hong Seong-ho swung at a four-pitch low change-up for two strikes, but the third base umpire called it a wild pitch. The game was briefly stopped as Doosan manager Lee Seung-yeop came out of the dugout and went to the third base umpire to protest. Lee appealed, but the call was not overturned. With one out, pinch-hitter Seo Ye-il hit a sacrifice fly to left field to tie the game at 4-4.

Doosan failed to capitalise on a good opportunity in the top of the seventh. One out later, Park Kye-beom led off with a double down the left field line. A wild pitch was thrown at him and he quickly ran to third to make it safe. Yang reached on a fielder’s choice. With runners on first and third, Kim Jae-hwan struck out swinging.

Yang Suk-hwan was hit on the left foot by a pitch from Yoo Young-chan. There was a brief scuffle between Yang Seok-hwan and catcher Park Dong-won, who was hit in the dirt, and a bench-clearing incident involving players from both teams. The players returned to the dugout in a short time without much fuss.

In the bottom of the second inning, Kang Seung-ho’s hard hit grounder was caught short by Oh Ji-hwan and thrown to first base, and first baseman Jung Joo-hyun made a good catch on the one-bound throw to keep the game scoreless.

In the eighth inning, LG’s leadoff hitter Hong Chang-ki drew a walk. Park Hae-min swung wildly at a bunt, and pitcher Jung Chul-won threw a wild pitch to first base that fell behind. Hong Chang-ki sprinted to third base. Park Hae-min made it 6-4 with an infield single through the Doosan infield, which was fielding forward. 메이저사이트

Jung Chul-won then made another error on a throw to first base. The throw fell backwards, allowing the speedy Park to advance to third base. With the bases loaded, Park struck out. When Austin grounded to the shortstop, Park’s throw home was misplayed on a one-base error, allowing the runner from third to score. LG led 7-4.
